SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3)
Also known as: Acetyl Octapeptide-3, SNAP8, Anti-Wrinkle Peptide
A synthetic octapeptide that mimics the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, a key protein in the SNARE complex responsible for neurotransmitter release. By competing with native SNAP-25, SNAP-8 reduces the exocytosis of neurotransmitters at the neuromuscular junction, resulting in decreased muscle contraction and reduced expression lines — often called a 'topical Botox alternative.'
Store at room temperature (15–25°C (59–77°F)) away from direct sunlight. Use within manufacturer's recommended timeframe after opening.
Developed by Lipotec (now part of Lubrizol), SNAP-8 has been shown in in vitro studies to reduce SNARE complex formation by up to 40%. Clinical studies on volunteers demonstrated a 63% reduction in wrinkle depth after 28 days of twice-daily application at 10% concentration. It is an extension of the argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3) concept with two additional amino acids for improved efficacy. Widely used in premium cosmeceutical formulations globally, though it does not replace neurotoxin injections for deep wrinkles.
